EEE 900 Gaming full listing

  • Aug. 11th, 2008 at 4:42 PM

I now have quite an exstensive list of the games i've tested on the EEE 900 gaming mini beast.

Below is the full list.

EEE 900

Age of Empires 2: 4
Game runs well even with a lot of units duking it out on screen. The reason I didn't give a 5 is because 1024x768 is annoying because of the scrolling, and 800x600, well it just feels like i'm licking the grass you're so close to the units. I've yet to find a FOV change for this.

Age of Mythology: 5
WOrks perfectly off the bat. FOV is large enough to be able to see everything that goings on within a wide area.

C&C Generals + Zero Hour: 3
Everything on low the game runs *ok*. But this is C&C. Large scale battles or skirmishes with tons of units. The FPS just drops.

C&C Red Alert: -
Couldn't get this to work for some reason? Some error I can't remember. Wasn't to fussed about it though.

CounterStrike 1.6: 5
Plays perfectly fine in OpenGL, have not tried Software mode yet. Apparently it runs smoother.

Dark Age of Camelot: 3
Runs well, good for soloing and small battles. But zerging is an absolutele no. Which kind of takes the fun out of the game to be honest.

***Deus Ex: 5
Runs well. Took a while to install though, I kept having some nonsense errors being spewed but after about the 3rd reinstall it started working (weird?)

Diablo 2 + LoD: 5
Runs perfect. LF BAAL RUN!

Dungeon Runners: 4
My only gripe here is the free membership with the adverts taking up precious resolution space across the top of the screen. 1024x600 natively. Runs ok apart from Townston.

Dungeon Siege: 5
Flawlessly works. Even on last boss with your full group around the clock tower.

FarCry: 2
Even patched to recent with terrain fix this is a slideshow.

Fate UR: 5
Nice colorful D2 type game. Runs nicely at 800x600, and you get a pet cat or dog to pick stuff up for you!

GTA 3: -
Issues getting this to work. I couldn't get a NO CD patch to work.

GTA Vice City: 5
Runs perfectly at 1024x600. Speeding around running people over. FUN!

Half Life: 5
Runs perfectly. Although occasionally there is a slight hiccup on freezing. Not sure what's causing this.

King Pin: -
Can't install, some install error bull, not bothered.

***Medal of Honor + Spearhead: 5
Runs amazingly at 800x600, seems to get a little jerky for some reason here and there, but when hitting 990mHz that disappears.

Mount & Blade: 5
Woo! hack you up with a hatchet harry on horseback. Great game. Make sure it's on DX7 and the battlesizes are no more than 45-55, so you can put up the detail a bit. Nice game, tons of mods.

Operation Flashpoint: 5
Works very well, didn't test much as didn't like the gameplay.

Rainbow Six 3: 5
Same as above really, but runs good!

***Return to Castle Wolfenstein: 5
Runs very well, medium settings 800x600

Soldier of Fortune: 2
Everything in this game runs well, until you shoot a weapon. It grinds the game to a halt while trying to render the lighting from any weapon. I'm confused here as everything is set on low or off.

Star Wars KotOR: 3
Not sure how people get this game to run well, it's a bit of a slide show in some places.

***Unreal 2: 4
Game runs pretty well at 1024x600 low graphics and running at 990mHz, little slow in places when there's a lot of action going on.

Warcraft 3: 5
Runs fine. Use the FOV hack so you can see much more of your base!

World of Warcraft: 5
15-25fps outside while soloing as hunter. 30fps+ inside places. Have a very minimalistic UI to improve framerate by about 5-7fps.

Age of Mythology.

  • Aug. 1st, 2008 at 3:49 PM

Popped in to game today and found Age of Mythology PLUS the Titans expansion (Link).

I installed the demo a while back and it's a billion times better than Age of Empires 2 (closest comparison). It fits 1024x600 and the FOV doesn't have it appear that your licking the grass, so i can see a very wide area.

As usual i'll upload the video once i'm done. I also have a C&C Generals video. It proves it works, just not that well.

EEE 900 Weekend fun

  • Jul. 24th, 2008 at 1:33 PM

I will be browsing my TWO local GAME stores tomorrow lunch time for some PC gaming bargains (preferably the 3 for a tenner deal) to sit up all weekend testing and filming.

Of course all stuff will go up on here.

I might also try and get HL2 to work on it since I can now successfuly overclock this machine. I might have done some damage to it though, as it seems to get a little hotter than usual lately! Time to get some Artic Silver 5 I think :S

GTA: Vice City on my EEE 900

  • Jul. 22nd, 2008 at 8:51 PM

Hooray!

Vicy City running amazingly on my 900. This is not overclocked. 1024x600x32bit is supported natively!

Enjoy the video!

Mount & Blade settings - Video here!

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 8:41 PM

Ok

I now have a video of skirmish 1 scenario from Mount & Blade.

There are easily 30+ NPCs battling it out on the screen and the wholemap, so the work done by the GPU is fairly impressive given it's limitations.

Here are my current settings for this game:

3DAnalyze settings

Pre-game settings

In-game settings

Heres the video!

Right,

There is a small video below of Mount & Blade running on my EEE. As i'm only using the Trial Version at the moment (I will be purchasing this game) I can only get to level 8 (6?).

I got through every battle fairly unhindered as the number of enemies was low.

The video is just of my guy going in to a village on his mount. I will post a small battle video to show you how it runs, possibly tonight? If not by Wednesday at the latest.

Wednesday is also the dead line for me to put GTA Vice City and an updated Half Life video.

Update on Mount & Blade

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 3:23 PM

After a works liquid lunch at the pub i've just come back to work with my EEE in hand.

I've managed to up detail to max and a few other settings. If my bluetooth dongle was here for the EEE I could do it now, but i'll upload the settings I have (Mount&Blade Game Performance is at about 69%, but runs perfectly?).

It's all looking pretty good and i'm fairly sure that's my weekend done. It's quite difficult even on a low setting as me and 4 of my men just got run down by some bandits.

Boo ;(

[EDIT] Over the weekend I will put up GTA Vice City on my EEE and post a screen and video. If anyone has any games they would like to see (i'm not talking Crysis here people) old school games, then I'll go and buy them and run them with optimized settings.

Mount & Blade

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 10:13 AM

What can I say?

Any game where you get to impale peasants and pirates on horseback with a lance is an absolute winner in my eyes.

I also have this running fairly well on my EEE 900. I'm using 3DAnalyze to emulate pixel shader 1.1, I have not played around with anything else for performance but I will.

Oh and I added the mod "No More Trees" from the forums to remove the leafs from trees to improve FPS.

This is not my made video on the EEE, I will have it once I record it.

Dungeon Siege on my EEE 900

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 6:39 PM

This game is great.

It works absolutely flawlessly. Plays perfect at 1024x600 with 2gb of ram. Even (and you can see in the video) it works well with a full group and all kinds of particles flying around.

More gaming on my EEE 900

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 6:15 PM

Ok,

I know have some classic games raring to go for my EEE 900:

Age of Empires 2
Alien V Predator 2
Halo Combat Evolved
Medal of Honour Allied Assault
Thief
Command & Conquer Generals
GTA 3 and Vice City
Star Wars Knights of the old Republic
FarCry

I don't get a lot of time to test all these but slowly and surely they will get put on.

I'm uploading my Dungeon Siege video now.

World of Warcraft on my EEE 900

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 6:02 PM
me
Happy days, another game working perfectly fine on my EEE 900.

Now that screen shot is in Orgrimmar at 6pm and I'm getting 9-11FPS which is pretty fucking good for that.

The video is just at Raventusk and killing one mob, perfectly good for soloing and 5 man dungeons.

Half Life on my EEE 900

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 5:24 PM
hl, hl2
I now have a fully working Half Life on my ASUS EEE 900. I'm fucking happy.

900mHz, 2GB 667 Kingston and the game is running off a 160GB WD Passport. No need to overclock as it runs fine.
